The Oxford Ski Company are Supporting Wounded Veterans
Paralympic sport is a proven, potent medium for confidence-building, and skiing levels the odds between the ‘able’ and ‘disabled’ as few sports can. As has been shown to great effect during the annual Ski Weeks, wounded veterans have used the Skiing with Heroes programme to help transform their lives.
Recover their confidence. Re-enter employment. Reclaim their lives
The Gift of Skiing
Skiing With Heroes’ mission, to help wounded Veterans restore their confidence and find full-time employment, starts with a process called Skihabilitation, or rehabilitation through skiing. Their annual ski week in Switzerland helps up to 26 wounded Veterans who are introduced to skiing using specially-designed adaptive equipment.
Supported by experienced ski-buddies, each Veteran starts a process of confidence-building that sets the foundation, not only of a process to successful skiing by the week’s end, but also to the beginning of a major rehabilitation programme afterwards.
